Meet our Founder and Executive Director!

John L. Vanover was a Pfc. U.S. Army veteran who was previously stationed with the 237th Engineer Battalion in Heilbronn, Germany during the Cold War era. (1983-1985)

He attended Bellevue University, majoring in Behavioral Science.

John retired from the Army on a medical discharge in 1985 as a 100 percent service connected disabled Veteran.

John has been a public servant since December 2001 and is highly dedicated to assisting veterans and their families. He is a member of the American Legion Man-o-war post 8 in Lexington Kentucky and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was most recently an employee of the National Cemetery Administration for 4 years as a Cemetery Representative; coordinating funeral services for veterans and their families - which is where his passion for aiding senior veterans commenced. During his employment, John conducted military honors for several elderly veterans who had no relatives or friends and hence, gave him the notion to form the Veterans Village.

John has one daughter, Brittni, a third generation soldier. She was a member of the Kentucky National Guard and achieved the rank of Sergeant. The Pfc. Richard L. Vanover Veterans Village is named after the founder's father who was a World War II and Korean War veteran, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for wounds he received in the Korean War.

John currently lives in Somerset, Kentucky.
